Sheriff announces promotion of sergeant

BROOKSVILLE – Sheriff Al Nienhuis has promoted a three-year veteran of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office to the rank of sergeant.

Sergeant Philip Di Gaetano, who previously worked as a corporal, will serve in operations at the Hernando County Detention Center.

Di Gaetano has worked for the sheriff’s office since August 2010, when the office took over jail operations from a private company. He previously worked for the Florida Department of Corrections for nine years.

At the jail, Di Gaetano is the fire safety sanitation officer, and has headed the Florida Council on Crime and Delinquency as president for several years.

He is working toward his associate degree in public safety at St. Petersburg College.

“Sergeant Di Gaetano has shown himself to be a person of integrity, even when the going gets tough. This, coupled with his decision-making abilities and exceptional knowledge of our policies and procedures, makes him stand out among several well-qualified applicants for this position,” Sheriff Al Nienhuis stated in a news release.
