Police find stolen gun

BROOKSVILLE – Just before midnight on June 26, Brooksville Police stopped a suspicious SUV and ultimately recovered a stolen gun.

According to an arrest report, officers saw the 1996 Chevrolet SUV behind Tires Plus on Broad Street and suspected a burglary was in progress.

Police made contact with Juan McCuller, 18, of Flaggler Avenue, in the vehicle, as well as a 13-year-old female passenger that an officer recognized from a past drug incident.

K-9 Titan alerted police to the presence of narcotics, and an interior search of the vehicle recovered a .380 caliber Ruger concealed in the center console. A check of the serial number found the gun was reported stolen in Citrus County in May 2013.

McCuller was arrested on charges of grand theft of a firearm and booked on $5,000 bond at the Hernando County Jail.

The juvenile was released to her parents, according to police.
