The firefighter, whose name was not immediately available, was being treated for heat exhaustion, said Hernando County Fire Rescue Chief Kevin Carroll.

As storms moved through Hernando on Wednesday afternoon, lightning struck the roof of the home at 9203 Lake Cypress Loop in the gated community, Carroll said.

The fire quickly moved into the attic, Carroll said.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading into the home, he said.
