Lake Townsen park road open

BROOKSVILLE — Visitors to Lake Townsen Regional Park will notice a new road that provides better access to the public boat ramp and fishing pier.

For years, the access road off Lake Lindsey Road that led to the ramp and pier needed frequent maintenance.

Hernando County recently closed that access and built a new road at the entrance to the park, at 28011 Lake Lindsey Road.

The new road crosses the Rails to Trails path used by bikers, hikers and horseback riders. The intersection is a four-way stop so users are urged to be cautious and obey traffic signs.

Located on 37 developed acres and 338 acres of open space in the eastern part of Hernando County, Lake Townsen Regional Park offers baseball, basketball, volleyball, horseshoes, a fishing pier/boat ramp, picnic areas, a playground, hiking, biking and horseback riding trails.

It is in a densely wooded area, bounded by the Withlacoochee State Forest to the north and the Withlacoochee River to the east.
