Hernando to get first Twistee Treat by Christmas
BROOKSVILLE – Hernando County can expect to see its first Twistee Treat outlet open this winter between Walmart and McDonald’s on Cortez Boulevard.
Just look for the waffle cone building with a roughly 2,000-pound roof the shape of vanilla soft-serve ice cream.
Workers with Above All Structural lifted a roughly 2,000 lb roof onto a Twistee Treat building under construction Tuesday. The ice cream store is expected to open this winter, they said.
“I’m flipping super excited,” said Central High School student Heather Goodwin, who brought her pickup truck to a stop Tuesday and pointed at the building. “I love their blueberry milkshakes.”
Jason McGillis, who is with the project’s main contractor, Above All Structural, helped hoist the roof onto the building with a crane Tuesday afternoon.
“They’ve got a lot of them in Orlando,” McGillis said. “A few of the new ones that rolled off the assembly line, we took to them.”
McGillis said the anticipated date of completion is Dec. 25.
“That’s the shoot date, anyway,” he said. “They’ve got some new ones being established, while at the same time fixing the old ones up.”
The franchise recently opened stores in New Tampa and Tarpon Springs, according to its website.
They serve regular vanilla, chocolate and strawberry cones, and vanilla-chocolate and vanilla-strawberry swirls. They also serve fat- and sugar-free vanilla and fat- and lactose-free pineapple sorbet, according to their website.
Also on the menu are “flavorbursts,” including mocha cappuccino, pina colada, butter pecan, cheesecake, pistachio, creamsicle, black cherry and “blue goo.”
All come in several sizes and kinds of cones, as well as cups.
