HCSO K-9 Unit Certified by FDLE

On 09-16-15, all four K-9 teams from the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office received certification from FDLE.

Each canine/handler team is evaluated on building searches, area searches, obedience, and apprehension.

All four of the HCSO teams passed all areas of evaluation.

The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office K-9 teams are as follows:

Corporal Stephen Miller (K-9 Unit Supervisor) and K-9 Justice
Deputy Brandon Cox and K-9 Judge
Deputy Jason Jernigan and K-9 Dzel
Deputy Jeff Andrews and K-9 Valor.

“Although specialty units like Aviation, K-9 and SWAT are not needed on every call, when they are needed their usefulness is invaluable in apprehending criminals. These types of certifications, especially when considering the high risk calls that K-9 teams handle, should give the public confidence that our dogs and their handlers are ready for anything that may come their way,” said Sheriff Al Nienhuis.

Congratulations to our K-9 unit on another job well done!
