Brooksville man dies in crash on I-75 in Pasco

A Brooksville man was killed this morning in a crash that closed southbound Interstate 75 in Lutz at State Road 56.

The crash occurred just before 6:45 a.m. and involved two tractor-trailers and a pickup truck.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 36-year-old Charles L. Hostetter, of Brooksville, was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota in the outside lane, just north of State Road 56, when he tried to change lanes but struck a trailer being towed by a semi driven by 49-year-old Michael A. Hakey, of Fremont, Ind.

The impact caused Hostetter’s pickup truck to rotate, the FHP said, and he was then struck on the driver’s side by another tractor-trailer, driven by 50-year-old Quintin L. Travis, of Midwest City, Okla.

Hostetter died at the scene, the FHP said.

The crash closed the roadway until about 10:30 a.m., the FHP said.
