Arroyo named Baseball America All-American

Former Hernando High shortstop Christian Arroyo was selected to Baseball America’s High School All-America first team this week.

After hitting .524 with 13 doubles, three triples, 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 42 runs scored as a senior this spring, Arroyo was taken with the 25th pick of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft earlier this month.

Arroyo signed with the Giants last week for $1,866,500, the value assigned to his draft slot. He previously accepted a scholarship offer from the University of Florida.

Last summer, he burst onto the national radar by earning tournament MVP honors while helping Team USA win the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship in Seoul, South Korea.

Additionally, Arroyo was the Class 5A Player of the Year this season and finished second in the voting for Mr. Baseball by the Florida Dairy Farmers.
