Airport fight results in battery charge

BROOKSVILLE – A man was arrested on battery charges Friday after a fight broke out between the main offices and the manufacturing floor of American Aviation at the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.

According to an arrest report, a deputy made contact at Brooksville Regional Hospital with the older male victim who said he was in a verbal argument with Justyn Newman, 40, which then turned physical.

The victim, who is not being named due to Hernando Today’s policy of not releasing victims’ names, told the deputy that Newman approached him, and his stomach made contact with Newman.

Newman then pushed the man with both hands to the concrete floor, landing full force on his right hip, which the deputy confirmed to be fractured while at the hospital, according to the report.

The deputy contacted Newman at his home, and Newman told the deputy the victim made initial contact with him with his stomach. Newman also told the deputy he retaliated by pushing him to the ground out of self-defense, according to the report.

Newman provided a sworn written statement, and was arrested and taken to Hernando County Jail on $2,000 bond. Jail records do not show Newman being arrested in Hernando County in the past.
